I’m starting a new series called “Dinner this Week.” For years I’ve had this disconnect between the recipes I read and the ones I actually get around to making. All my dinner “planning” has been on the fly. As a result I’ve gotten to be pretty good at coming up with meals based on what I have on hand. Actually kind of a fun challenge, except when I realize it’s 30 minutes to dinner and I still have no idea what we’re eating. No time to pull out that recipe I’ve been meaning to try. (Now where was that thing?)
Lately I’ve been using Notes (the free Mac app) to organize links to recipes I want to try. Before the week begins, I scroll through and make a menu and shopping list, all using Notes. Why have I never done this before? I haven’t a clue. But it’s working great.
At the beginning of the week, I’ll publish my dinner menu with links to any recipes and/or sources of inspiration. In “Dinner Tonight,” I’ll show you how it actually turned out. I’ll also have some lunches I put together with leftovers. The menu is Monday through Friday. Weekends around here are unpredictable, so I have to stay flexible.
Of course I’m a little hesitant about starting a series, since my track record for serial blogging hasn’t been very good. But nothing ventured, nothing gained. So, here’s this week’s dinner menu:
grilled baby portobello mushrooms, salad caprese (tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil) on a bed of artisan lettuce, grilled pizza dough
steelhead trout, linguini and alfredo sauce, sauteed spinach
grilled pork chops, sweet potatoes, green vegetable
quesadillas, grilled chicken, burgers
Note: Dinner this Week helps me to actually try the great recipes I read. So most of these are untried at the time of posting the menu. If I do like the recipe, eventually it will be featured with my tweaks and photos.
