Lord, if it were the number of our prayers, the sheer volume of our words that would move your heart, if it were the depth of our desperation, the strength of our need, the sharpness of our pain, then surely you would have come to our rescue by now.
But it was your own mercy and goodness that first reached out to us, while we were sinners, hostile and alien to our Maker. Why would it now be dependent on anything that we do, to move your heart with compassion toward our cause?
We are waiting on you and your goodness. We trust you, good shepherd, to rescue your sheep, to do what we cannot do. Morning and night we cry out to you until you come. We were helpless then and we are helpless now.
Hear us, Lord, for we are broken in so many ways, in such need of healing, of truth, of hope, of deliverance. Let your heart be moved by your own mercy and love towards us, for the sake of your own name, for you have called us your own.
