If this is the cry of your heart, pray this with me.
Father, send the Holy Spirit, as Jesus promised. We need another outpouring. We want to be your witnesses. Open our eyes that we can see you as you are, in all your glory.
This has been your vision from the very beginning, that we would behold your glory and so glorify you as the only one who is worthy, the only one we worship. Remove the veil from our eyes that we might see you and know you as we are known. These earthly vessels are too frail to contain such majesty, so break these alabaster jars, and let your fragrant beauty spill out and fill the earth. As a deer pants for water, we thirst for your Spirit. We long for you.
You are worthy of a witness on this earth. This broken world is in desperate need of a witness, one who would testify to the Truth, declaring the wonder of your grace and the greatness of your mercy, not only because we have heard with our ears, but because we have seen with our eyes, looked at, and touched you. Let the love we have known burn like unquenchable fire, setting aflame this world with the love of God.
Here am I. Send me. Let me be the mouthpiece that declares the wonders of the risen Christ, the love of the Father. Let me be the telescope that brings into view the reality of your greatness, that brings a piece of your kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven, because you are worthy of the worship of all your creation. Let my words, my life, all of my being, testify of your goodness that men and women everywhere would bow down and worship the one true living God.
Do this, Lord, for your namesake, for your glory. Pour out your Spirit again and transform your Church to be your witness in this generation.
Note: This prayer is an excerpt from my prayer journal, mostly inspired by scripture. If some of the language seems a little antiquated it’s probably because the King James was my version of choice for many years. It was not written with a public audience in mind, but if something speaks to you, by all means, pray with me.
